2008 | RepRap research program started

I got hooked to the RepRap project. Together with Marius Im working on Selfreplicating and Evolving 3D printing at Metalab. Here is a link to our blog: http://reprap.soup.io

Remark: Thanks to all the people who voted for us we got 8800 euro founding to finance the RepRap research at Metalab for the next two years (this funding is only for material costs...we don't use it to pay salaries to ourself)

27.3.2007 | Google Blacklists

I know the problem of google blacklisting domains from our http://kybernet.org domain. Google seems to actively blacklist it. A google search for kybernet.org shows lots of results that (almost) all link to kybernet.org but the domain itself is blacklisted. We had to add another domain http://kybkreis.org which shows exactly the same content. Yet this domain is not blacklisted and shows up as the first two search results. Now I heard that just the same thing happened to the domain of Google Will Eat Itself - an interesting web art project about automating buying of google stocks with income from google adwords on their page (which is just a brilliant idea). A google search for gwei.org shows simmilar results. Lots of direct references but no link to the domain. So much for "we don't do evil"-meme that google seeded. It's good though to see that the cencoring fails because of the secondary pages. If they started to blacklist these too they would loose valuable webpages and their services would become unusable. I just hope they don't refine theri blacklisting algorithms.

Christ someone above suggested adding support for tables? lol noob. Floating CSS DIV FTW!! For real! Not like those fuddy duddies with their grandpa's word processor cuz, like, they can't share their documents or nothing!! What about me you ask?? Me and my clan have our entire org chart on Google Aps, and we elected our leader over google chat, and we wrote our press release in Google docs so everyone could collaborate. It was transcendent! Uhh, I mean, it was cool!!11!!

When I first read about the RepRap project some years ago I could only dream about actually seeing a GNU licenced 3D Printer at work. Now the time has come :) Come and visit Vik Olliver's RepRap prototype at the Paraflows exhibition in the Metalab.

5.4.2006 | Audacity - a cool free audio editor and recorder

It never ceases to amaze me what cool tools have been developed by humans around the world. Or to make it more precise: I like free Software :) For many years I didn't recorde any sound files with my micropone because I just couldn't live with the 60 seconds limit of the crippled windows sound recorder. Today I decided to give the google search 'gnu sound recorder' a try and I feel much better now :) I can really reccomend audacity. It has all the features I'd expect from such a tool but I use it only to record my whisteling and practice speeches...

Das MetaLab Hackerkultur in Wien. Es war ja auch schon lange Zeit...

Die meisten von euch wissen ja schon davon: In Wien gibt es reges Interesse daran ein "offenes Zentrum fuer meta-disziplinaere Magier und technisch-kreative Enthusiasten", oder schlichter, einfach einen Platz fuer angewandte Hackerkultur zu schaffen. Nach langem Reden, Diskutieren, Probelaeufen in Freimaurerschloessern, Wohnungen und Souterrains, Seitenlangen Wiki-Entwuerfen, zig Namen, einem Speedgeeking wo eigentlich darueber geredet haette werden sollen, viel angewandtem Verpeilen, Einladungen anderer Hackerlabors nach Wien, und Studienreisen zu Hackerlaboren um den Kontinent, sind wir nun endlich so weit.

Wir fangen an. Das MetaLab-Rekonstruktionsprojekt beginnt am 24. November 2005 in einer verschlafenen Grossstadt in Deiner Naehe. Eine absolut inhomogene Gruppe rund um CNGW, Funkfeuer, innoc, dem KybKreis und einigen unabhaengigen Kohlenstoff-basierten Lebensformen hat sich zusammengetan um die Wiener Hackerkultur in all ihrer Vielfalt aus dem Tiefschlaf zu reissen, und uns endlich den Platz zu geben den wir brauchen um unsere Ideen und Projekte verwirklichen zu koennen.

Und alle organischen, und vor allem anorganischen Lebensformen und Gruppierungen solchiger, die sich als Teil dieser noch verschlafenen Wiener Hackerkultur sehen, sind dazu aufgerufen sich an diesem monumentalen Projekt zu beteiligen.

Und dafuer gibt es bereits eine vielzahl Moeglichkeiten:

MetaLab-Announce - Angkuendigunsliste (empfaengt nur Ankuendigungen)

Weiters haben wir ein Wiki, wo wir gerade an Entwuerfen, Finanzierungsplaenen, Foldern, Ideen und allgemeinem Projektmanagement feilen. Wer den Plan die Vision und die Photos noch nicht kenn, dem sei nahegelegt einen Blick auf dieses unter http://metalab.at/wiki/ erreichbare Wiki zu werfen.

Und last-but-not-least, haben wir uns entschlossen alle die wirklich aktiv mitmachen wollen, oder glauben uns durch Kontakten, Raeumlichkeiten, oder sonstige Inputs helfen zu koennen, zu einem Treffen am 8. Dezember um 19 Uhr, also in genau zwei Wochen, zusammenzurufen. Die genaue Location wird ueber die genannten Kanaele noch bekannt gegeben.

How much could be gained by a 'no to all' button. why these arbitrary asymmetries?
UPDATE: A reader told me that the combination of pressing shift and clicking No gives the required result: "No to all". Now thats a very intuitive UI. Anyway too bad I can't try it out right now as I switched to Ubuntu some months ago.
